structures may impact it. But, there's an easy way to get the setting right: - Set the tips according to the assembly instructions BUT DON'T PULL THE RIVETS. - Take some spare rivets (there may be enough spares shipped with the antenna, but if not, Home Depot has spares - not the right quality for assembly, but fine for what I'm about to describe) and clip off the mandrel (stiff wire part down the center). - Put the remaining head of the rivet into the holes pre-drilled in the tips. Hold this 'dummy' rivet in place by taping over with any PVC or similar tape you have handy. - Raise the antenna to operating height and check SWR curve. - If SWR curve's not where you want it, lower antenna and move tips in or out, retaping the dummy rivets in place. Repeat until you have the curve in the desired part of the band. - Now you know where the tips should be - lower the antenna one last time and replace the 'dummy' rivets with those supplied by F12, 'pop' them and you're done. Worked a treat here and the C3SS has been a great performer at 45 feet. 73 Dave G3WGN One of the M6T gang G5M in ARRL and WPX contests -------------------------------------------- Force12Talk mailing list provided as a service by Force 12 Antennas, Inc.
