Subject: protecting surfaces; user's report on XIM400, query on PVC
Author: James W. Jr. Fisher <74237.2073@compuserve.com>

Environment: salt air, high winds on cliff.

I. My C51XR/H is down for mod to C51XRN and a new tower to permit the full
3-stack finally to go up (2xC51XRN, 1xC31XR/H in the middle). Chance to
look it over.

Report on my use of XIM400 on the C51XR/H last winter: the C51XR/H surfaces
are in great shape.

XIM Products Inc.

I got the XIM400 primer, clear color (others are available).
Solvent-based; spreads easily with a simple paintbrush suitable for
oil-based paints. I understand they also have a water-based version. I
was able to identify my nearest Canadian dealer (Ontario) with a call to
the company.

Now I'm going to clean and prime my other older F12 aluminum for the winter
season.

I have no commercial connection with XIM.

II. PVC insulator protection

The C31XR/H manual mentions the possibility of putting tape over the PVC
insulators to reduce UV deterioration. Has anybody tried a paint
alternative? Would this work from an RF standpoint? Any recommendations
or experience?

Jim, VE1JF
