Ice storms in Alabama can permanently distort a C3 - such a C3 lives down the street, not a pretty sight. I'm hoping my new C31XA will do better but I'm not real optimistic as it displays considerable unloaded droop. You don't need freezing rain. At this QTH moist air blowing up 1000 feet from the Tenn. valley or heavy clouds/fog can be a major problem. Of course wind loading is also a problem here. My experience includes 20m KLM elements breaking one foot from the boom and destroyed quads. IMHO colder climates result in less ice accumulation and observations from Maine don't apply here. If someone tells me that F12's always recover, I say there goes a lucky guy. vy 73
