Subject: C-31XR Balun ... de K8NA

If I remember from my KT-34XA days, the KLM balun was a 4:1, which is
internally more complicated than what is commonly called a "current balun"
in recent literature. Internally, a current balun is just a stack of
ferrite chokes on a chunk of coax, which should be pretty problem free. If
you want to buy the big cores, you can shrink them (shrink tubing, not
shrinkable beads, hi) on your feedline and you are done.

The 5KW F12 balun looks pretty sturdy from the outside, and I have used it
at 3KW power levels on MARS frequencies for a year without problems. If
you decide to use the F12 balun, my C-31XR didn't come with any balun
attaching hardware, so we fabricated a mounting plate from some scrap
aluminum and some U-bolts. If you're in a time crunch, you might start
collecting that kind of hardware.

Good luck. I think you'll like the antenna.
