Subject: C-31XR Balun ...

The Force 12 balun works, but I've abandoned balun's in favor of coax wound
into an RF choke -- which is recommended by Force 12 in their antenna
manuals.....works great! /k6sdw

Hi John,

Do you have any experience with the W1JR type Balun which is recommended in
W2FMI's book, Balun's and Unun's?

You are aware that not all "current" mode type Balun's are suitable for use?
The Force 12 version seems to use a proper ferrite mix. Some other
manufacturers do not and visible heating of the Balun can occur with 100w
power levels. Even with antennas that appeared to be properly constructed I
have observed the destruction of a popular "current" mode Balun with
kilowatt power levels. Heating had gone un-noticed, but had almost
certainly occurred.

Please also, keep in mind that I am not a scientist by any means, just a
builder, user and observer.
