Hi Roy -- IMO it would be extremely difficult on HF to discern any pattern skewing caused by feedline radiation, particularly when a 2-element antenna is involved. In my case, other considerations predominate -- in particular: I don't want feedline common mode currents to make any RFI problems worse. A bead balun like the (E)B-1 is a simple device with no obvious failure modes. Terninating the feedline at a PL-259 is neater and less prone to water infiltration than splitting it and making pigtails for connection to the feedpoint(s). 73, Pete N4ZR Contesting is!
