I have a Dxer which developed a problem on 20 meters. I think it may be the coax and would like to get some opinions on what I'm experiencing before I purchase a new feed line. The antenna and coax were purchased new and are about a year old. While rotating the antenna, and then making an sudden stop, there is a momentary loss of signal which comes and goes until the antenna elements and boom flex settle down. The elements and boom appear solid and tight and movment is very little, even when twisting the rotor back and forth abruptly. This problem happens on 20 meters only, which is fed by it's own feed line. The loss of signal seems to be directly related to antenna movment but also happens at times while slowly rotating the antenna. I'm using LMR400, with the solid aluminum center conductor and think this problem could be caused by a break in the coax or broken connector. The Force12 balun and it's connection to the driven element seem tight and weather proof and the antenna itself seems solid. I should mention that the SWR dosn't change when applying power and twisting the antenna back and forth. At times, it seems that when power is applied, the noise level comes up as if the signal jumped over and made contact by arcing. I'm about to purchase new coax and would appreciate any suggestions before I do so. I've spoke with Natan and he seems to think all things point to the coax and it's solid center conductor. Thanks for your time. 73, Tony AB2CJ -------------------------------------------- Force12Talk mailing list provided as a service by Force 12 Antennas, Inc.
