Subject: Tuning on 40 meter linear loaded elements?

Bill:

I have a C4XL and tuning was not problem in my installation. I have the C4XL
mounted at 60' with the guy wires at the 27' and 50'.

I used the measurements from the manual for the cw setting and I was right where
I wanted to be. Maybe I was lucky. The good news is that you can get to the
40m driven element while the beam is mounted on the mast. You remove the pin
holding the spreader so you can move it towards you. Use a nut driver on the
cable clamps to loosen the shortening bar (don't loosen it too much) and move
the shorting bar accordingly. Thats how I would change the reasonant point for
ssb and cw contests. I now have the relay box installed so I can change between
cw and ssb from the shack.

Now don't get me wrong on this. Its not a lot of fun being on the tower
stretching out with both hands at 60' in the air to do this. But if your
comfortable on the tower its not a big deal.
