Subject: Hairpin

If the hairpin that comes with a Force 12 40M antenna doesn't appear to have
enough inductance, it is probably a sign that something else is wrong. For
example, I talked to a guy over the air who was irate because he had to go
back to Force 12 to get an inductor with more turns. It turns out, though,
that he had replaced the Alumoweld wires of the linear loading with steel
strand aircraft cable! (and had neglected to tell Force 12 about it.) He was
really happy with the unexpectedly large VSWR bandwidth he was getting from
the antenna, though! I told him he had made a big mistake. The resistance
of aircraft cable can be surprisingly high. 73 to all. Dick, K5RR
