I used two long tables to hold the boom. (I put it together in the living room on Friday night). I put the other elements together and installed them on the boom. It took about 3 hours to get the C-3 ready for the tower. I used the B-1 balun on the C-3. Using a home-made gin pole I got the antenna on the tower and locked down. The coax was then run to the shack and then to try the antenna. It was now 8:30 PM and I was dead tired but had to try out the C-3. My TA-33 has been up since March 1995 and I turned my MFJ-962D to coax direct to get a SWR reading. TA-33 C-3 14195 mhz "0" "0" reflected power 21295 mhz "0" 1.3 reflected power 28495 mhz 1.1 "0" reflected power After I turned the rig on I noticed how many signals were coming through. There were many stations on 15 meters that I had not heard at that time of day on the TA-33. I really enjoyed getting on 17 meters. I worked TN3W on 18145 at 1:26 GMT with my first call. I then worked R1MVF on 14021 on CW. Then went to bed happy. I have a dipole for 17 meters and what a joy to have a directional antenna on 17 meters. I noticed that the C-3 is a lot more quiet than the TA-33 at my QTH. This is a great PLUS. Don't really know why but I do enjoy this new found quiet. I noticed that Japan was coming through last night on 15 meters.......don't think I was hearing these stations with the TA-33. I had no antenna for 12 meters. The C-3 does this band also. Have listened to a few stations but didn't have the time to talk. Had a high school graduation today and was gone all day. After one day I can say that I truly love the C-3 antenna. It has been better than what I was expecting. Got it from California and up and running in 8 days. I could have adjusted the 15 meter element and got the SWR down some. I wish there was some type of bracket to hold the B-1 balun under the boom where the connector wires would be straight into the connectors.
