I have experienced quite a bit of static build up on antennas in 9M6 on a
clear, sunny day - with only a breeze blowing off the sea, only a km or so
away & no nasty weather within sight.

One zap from that was enough to convince me that something that presents
a DC short across the feedpoint of an antenna is worth having (large resistor
or inductance).
