Subject: C31XR & guy wire detuning

You may not have followed earlier threads on so-called non-resonant
guys, but since the wires are in the NEAR field of the antenna
elements, and not equally excited across their entire length, the ARRL
formulas DO NOT APPLY. ANY length except very SHORT lengths
(considerably shorter than a 1/2 wave at the HIGHEST frequency in use)
WILL carry significant current and screw up the pattern, if not the
feed impedances.

For all practical purposes those lengths are an old wives tale.

For tribanders, the longest length to use before breaking up is eleven
feet. Even then there is some effect on 10.
