I'm not sure how to post this message to the force-12 reflector . . . 73, Rich KY6R ----- Original Message ----- From: "GLCommunicator" <list@qth.com> To: <rholoch@attbi.com> Sent: Sunday, December 15, 2002 16:35 Subject: SVDA using 40XK's > Postings with attachments are not allowed. My goal is easier maintenance with at least as good performance as what I have. What I have right now has helped me work 239 countries in the last year and a half - so its pretty good for "compromise" antennas. I only care about 40 - 10M, and once the sunspot cycle starts diving this next year, 40 - "whatever stays open". Low angle is where its at for me - I only DX these days. Recently I worked C56R on just about every band they were on during one or both of the CQWW contests. They used phased verticals, and I have also read about the 6Y5 and Kingman "team vertical" dx-peditions where they used phased Sigma prototype antennas - the "transformer" sure sounding like the 40XK. Anyway, I have one 40XK on order, and will bump it up to 2 if the first one performs as well as my Windom (which I have used lately to work EU, Asia, Caribbean, Africa and Antarctica during the AM greyline). Its only up 30 feet on one side and maybe 45' on the other end - so its good on receive, but not so great on transmit - I know the other station has to strain a lot and that my signal is always quite weak at the dx stations end of the circuit. I plan on spacing the 2 40XK's 1/4 wl apart, but am not sure how to phase them. I could start by "cheating" - running 2 coax feedlines - 1 to each anetnna and then using my Ten Tec "L network" 238B tuner to switch between one being a driven element and then one being a reflector. then I could go back and read the ON4UN book on phasing and try to figure out which of the gazillion ways to phase them. I also have the problem where my orchard (where I will hide them) is on a hill - but I think I can mount one just above ground and the other one a bit higher so they are in the same ground plane. Maybe someone who has done this could cut to the chase and steer me in the right direction so I don't waste time and money. 73, Rich KY6R T> -------------------------------------------- Force12Talk mailing list provided as a service by Force 12 Antennas, Inc.
