Subject: dipole vs. Mosley TA33-SR

First off let's assume the antennas are all at 48 feet over real ground.
The di-pole is of unity gain.
From the triband report:
TA-33 has average gain of 1.2 dBd and peak gain of 1.5 dBd
C-3 has average gain of 3.3 dBd and peak gain of 4 dBd

So why the change from 52 to 59 on the report?
Well two simple factors.
One, S meters are not very accurate, and was it a reading of 59 or did you
just sound a whole lot louder? Some set ups sound like 59 when the
meter reads some what less.

Two, angle of radiation. As you add in elements to a di-pole you will
lower the angle of radiation. Did you bring more of your signal into
the best receive/transmit angle of radiation?

There are times (very rare) when a di-pole will be equal to a TH-6 on
receive
depending on your angle of radiation.
This is why lots of antennas at lots of heights make for a better contest/DX
station.

Just some thoughts to add to the stew.

Peter
