I am sure that this will have a large adverse effect on your beam and dipoles performance due to their close proximity to the roof.. I suspect that your SWR will also fluctuate quite a bit depending on which direction your beam is pointing. This alone can be quit annoying. I also imagine that unless special care is taken in electrically bonding the adjacent pieces of roofing material to one another, that the chances of rectification of your signal taking place in the roofing are high. The roof would then radiate harmonics of your signal, which could definitely cause RFI. We just put a new composite roof on our house with a 30 year guarantee. That is quite a long time. I am a long ways from a expert on this, but I hope this helps. regards, Ken W7TS ------------------- Kenneth E. (We are finding broken shingles in the yard after every wind storm!) My 40' (free standing Trylon) tower sits about 6' from the house and is, at most, 15' above the highest point of the house. There is a C19XR, plus a 2m vertical on top and a dipole hanging from a yard-arm near the top. Everything works just fine now. The question: My XYL has it in her head that we should have a metal (steel or aluminum) roof applied. So we won't have to do it again, ever. (At our ages neither us is likely be around the next time it needs to be done either way!) What will a metal roof do the radiation pattern of my C19? Do I need to be concerned about any extra potential for interference, either in my house or my neighbours'? Thanks in advance.
